Today, stainless steel is the most common metal used for cutlery. It is in nearly everyone’s home. Few people know the harm of using steel cutlery. Stainless steel cutlery is usually coated with chromium and nickel in order to enhance its thermal conductivity and resistance to corrosion. The most commonly used type is SS grade 304 which contains approximately 18–20% chromium, and 8–12% nickel (!!). Stainless steel cutlery can be an overlooked source of nickel and chromium. This may result in adverse health effects.
